In 1993 in the Sierra Nut House our staff was preparing French style five bean soup that was a recipe from my family.
Customers loved this soup and we made the mix of beans for them and gave them a recipe to put this fabulous soup together at home.
One of our regular customers stopped short and said, " just put the mix in a bag, spices and all so it is easier, and I want your Mother's recipe for minestrone, also." Well that started the train rolling and the beans flying. We had a food scientist on staff and a gram scale and we sent her off to Mom's kitchen to try to figure out why everything from this kitchen had such fabulous flavors, and to capture a recipe for these soups and her pasta e fajioli soup.
That was the beginning of Sierra Soups. Our mission was to provide the most food value, the cleanest product, flavorful and easy
for a cook to put together. It was important for us to have the mix complete in a bag with vegetables and spices.
So if you have this mix in your cupboard on a Sunday and want soup to simmer away, you do not have to make a trip to the grocery store. THE HARDEST THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAUTE AN ONION ...AND SOMETIMES NOT EVEN THAT. This was our first shelf talker and the reason that in some stores we are in produce near the onion display.
Today the most important thing on our shelf talker is, VEGETARIAN, VEGAN, GLUTEN FREE and this has caused our business to really blossom.
Our marketing research showed that the household cook did not mind a slow cooking product, eg beans, however, they did want some
left for the next day. With this in mind we developed recipes that served from eight to sixteen servings. They can be frozen for later
meals and still retain their marvelous flavor and nutrition.
So, from our family at Sierra Soups to your family, bon appetit!!!
